Day 21 of 30 · Clang frontend

Check readiness for a first contribution

Checkpoint C
Time
About 150 minutes: 30 reading, 90 lab, 20 testing, 10 notes.
Prerequisites
Day 20: Read the contribution rules and a small merged change

Toolchain: current-main build

Use build/bin/clang++ and build/bin/llvm-lit from your llvm-main checkout, not whichever clang++ is first on PATH. Reproduce upstream behavior on current main and record the commit SHA. Setup guide

Learn

  • Build, reproduce, test and explain independently.

Read Reading

  • Your learning notes
No new chapter. Revisit only the gap found during the checkpoint · up to 30 min

Reading budgets cover selected sections, not whole chapters. Link to the book; this site does not reproduce it.

Build Build or investigate

  1. Run the relevant test directory.
  2. Explain a diagnostic path and your scratch regression test without notes.
  3. List two candidate areas you can reason about and two you should postpone.
  4. Catch up before selecting an issue.

Done when

Checkpoint C: working current-main Clang, a focused lit command, and an explainable test. If missing, extend days 15–19.

Recall question

Can you tell whether a test failure comes from your change, the baseline or the environment?
